About the Award
The Jim Herod Memorial Award honours someone who has made an exceptional contribution in the areas of outreach and education. These areas are extremely important to the mandate of Muskies Canada and encompass a wide range of activities that advance public understanding of muskellunge conservation:
Partnering with organizations to advance muskellunge conservation goals
Advising fisheries management officials on policy and regulation
Engaging youth in fishing and aquatic conservation education
Securing media coverage that promotes catch-and-release and conservation values
Organizing educational seminars and public outreach events

Denis Gravel
2022 Recipient
Denis has been a cornerstone of MCI’s francophone outreach in Quebec, translating educational materials and running identification workshops at fishing shows and community events across the province. His dedication to bilingual education has expanded Muskies Canada’s reach into francophone communities throughout Quebec.
Andy Pappas
2025 Recipient
Andy’s decades of mentorship have introduced hundreds of new anglers to muskellunge fishing with a conservation-first approach. His seminar series on catch-and-release techniques has become a model for angler education across Ontario, and his hands-on involvement with youth programs exemplifies the spirit of this award.
Brent Bochek
2026 Recipient
Brent is known as the “take a kid fishing” guy, and he has done 200+ seminars, and every one has the call to be a better angler, respect the environment, and get the youth involved.
